श्री सूक्तम्
परिचय
श्री सूक्तम् ऋग्वेद के खिलसूक्त परम्परा से आया एक अत्यंत महत्त्वपूर्ण वैदिक सूक्त है जिसमें देवी लक्ष्मी की स्तुति की गई है। छन्द: अनुष्टुभ् (मुख्यतः)। देवता: श्री-लक्ष्मी। इसमें १६ ऋचाएँ हैं।

॥ श्री सूक्तम् ॥
हिरण्यवर्णां हरिणीं सुवर्णरजतस्रजाम् ।
चन्द्रां हिरण्मयीं लक्ष्मीं जातवेदो म आवह ॥ १॥
तां म आवह जातवेदो लक्ष्मीमनपगामिनीम् ।
यस्यां हिरण्यं विन्देयं गामश्वं पुरुषानहम् ॥ २॥
अश्वपूर्वां रथमध्यां हस्तिनादप्रबोधिनीम् ।
श्रियं देवीमुपह्वये श्रीर्मा देवी जुषताम् ॥ ३॥
कां सोस्मितां हिरण्यप्राकारामार्द्रां ज्वलन्तीं तृप्तां तर्पयन्तीम् ।
पद्मे स्थितां पद्मवर्णां तामिहोपह्वये श्रियम् ॥ ४॥
चन्द्रां प्रभासां यशसा ज्वलन्तीं श्रियं लोके देवजुष्टामुदाराम् ।
तां पद्मिनीमीं शरणमहं प्रपद्येऽलक्ष्मीर्मे नश्यतां त्वां वृणे ॥ ५॥
आदित्यवर्णे तपसोऽधिजातो वनस्पतिस्तव वृक्षोऽथ बिल्वः ।
तस्य फलानि तपसा नुदन्तु मायान्तरायाश्च बाह्या अलक्ष्मीः ॥ ६॥
उपैतु मां देवसखः कीर्तिश्च मणिना सह ।
प्रादुर्भूतोऽस्मि राष्ट्रेऽस्मिन् कीर्तिमृद्धिं ददातु मे ॥ ७॥
क्षुत्पिपासामलां ज्येष्ठामलक्ष्मीं नाशयाम्यहम् ।
अभूतिमसमृद्धिं च सर्वां निर्णुद मे गृहात् ॥ ८॥
गन्धद्वारां दुराधर्षां नित्यपुष्टां करीषिणीम् ।
ईश्वरीं सर्वभूतानां तामिहोपह्वये श्रियम् ॥ ९॥
मनसः काममाकूतिं वाचः सत्यमशीमहि ।
पशूनां रूपमन्नस्य मयि श्रीः श्रयतां यशः ॥ १०॥
कर्दमेन प्रजाभूता मयि सम्भव कर्दम ।
श्रियं वासय मे कुले मातरं पद्ममालिनीम् ॥ ११॥
आपः सृजन्तु स्निग्धानि चिक्लीत वस मे गृहे ।
नि च देवीं मातरं श्रियं वासय मे कुले ॥ १२॥
आर्द्रां पुष्करिणीं पुष्टिं पिङ्गलां पद्ममालिनीम् ।
चन्द्रां हिरण्मयीं लक्ष्मीं जातवेदो म आवह ॥ १३॥
आर्द्रां यः करिणीं यष्टिं सुवर्णां हेममालिनीम् ।
सूर्यां हिरण्मयीं लक्ष्मीं जातवेदो म आवह ॥ १४॥
तां म आवह जातवेदो लक्ष्मीमनपगामिनीम् ।
यस्यां हिरण्यं प्रभूतं गावो दास्योऽश्वान् विन्देयं पुरुषानहम् ॥ १५॥

महत्त्व — कब पढ़ें
शुक्रवार, दीपावली, लक्ष्मी पूजा और पूर्णिमा पर पाठ अत्यंत फलदायी है। धन-समृद्धि, सौभाग्य और गृह-शान्ति के लिए नित्य पाठ लाभकारी माना जाता है।

Śrī Sūktam
Introduction
The Śrī Sūktam is found in the Khila (supplementary) section of the Ṛgveda. It is a hymn of 15 (some recensions: 16) verses dedicated to Śrī (Mahālakṣmī). The ṛṣi is Ānanda, and the devatā is Śrī. The chandas varies — primarily Anuṣṭubh and Triṣṭubh.

॥ Śrī Sūktam ॥
hiraṇya-varṇāṃ hariṇīṃ suvarṇa-rajata-srajām ।
candrāṃ hiraṇmayīṃ lakṣmīṃ jātavedo ma āvaha ॥ 1 ॥
O Jātaveda (Agni), bring to me Lakṣmī — golden in colour, tawny-hued, garlanded with gold and silver, radiant like the moon, golden.
tāṃ ma āvaha jātavedo lakṣmīm anapagāminīm ।
yasyāṃ hiraṇyaṃ vindeyaṃ gām aśvaṃ puruṣān aham ॥ 2 ॥
O Jātaveda, bring that Lakṣmī to me — she who never departs — through whom I may gain gold, cattle, horses, and servants.
aśva-pūrvāṃ ratha-madhyāṃ hasti-nāda-prabodhiīm ।
śriyaṃ devīm upahvaye śrīr mā devī juṣatām ॥ 3 ॥
I invoke Devī Śrī — preceded by horses, attended by chariots, awakened by the trumpeting of elephants. May Devī Śrī be pleased with me.
kāṃ so-smitāṃ hiraṇya-prākārām ārdrāṃ jvalantīṃ tṛptāṃ tarpayantīm ।
padme sthitāṃ padma-varṇāṃ tām iho-pahvaye śriyam ॥ 4 ॥
I invoke here that Śrī — she of the gentle smile, golden-walled, moist with compassion, blazing with light, content and contenting others, seated on the lotus, lotus-hued.
candrāṃ prabhāsāṃ yaśasā jvalantīṃ śriyaṃ loke deva-juṣṭām udārām ।
tāṃ padminīm īṃ śaraṇam ahaṃ prapadye’lakṣmīr me naśyatāṃ tvāṃ vṛṇe ॥ 5 ॥
I take refuge in that lotus-bearing Śrī — moon-like, effulgent, blazing with fame, beloved by gods, noble. Let my ill-fortune perish; I choose you.
āditya-varṇe tapaso’dhijāto vanaspatis tava vṛkṣo’tha bilvaḥ ।
tasya phalāni tapasā nudantu māyāntarāyāś ca bāhyā alakṣmīḥ ॥ 6 ॥
O Śrī of solar lustre — the bilva tree, born of your tapas, is your tree. May its fruits by tapas drive away all inner and outer ill-fortune.
upai-tu māṃ deva-sakhaḥ kīrtiś ca maṇinā saha ।
prādur-bhūto’smi rāṣṭre’smin kīrtim ṛddhiṃ dadātu me ॥ 7 ॥
May the friend of the gods (Kubera) and fame come to me together with jewels. I have manifested in this land — may He grant me fame and prosperity.
kṣut-pipāsā-malāṃ jyeṣṭhām alakṣmīṃ nāśayāmy aham ।
abhūtim asamṛddhiṃ ca sarvāṃ nirṇuda me gṛhāt ॥ 8 ॥
I destroy elder Alakṣmī — impure with hunger and thirst. Drive away from my home all non-being and non-prosperity.
gandha-dvārāṃ durādharṣāṃ nitya-puṣṭāṃ karīṣiṇīm ।
īśvarīṃ sarva-bhūtānāṃ tām iho-pahvaye śriyam ॥ 9 ॥
I invoke here that Śrī — perceived through fragrance, invincible, ever full, abounding in cow dung (fertility), the sovereign of all beings.
manasaḥ kāmam ākūtiṃ vācaḥ satyam aśīmahi ।
paśūnāṃ rūpam annasya mayi śrīḥ śrayatāṃ yaśaḥ ॥ 10 ॥
May we attain the heart’s desire, the intention, the truth of speech, the beauty of cattle and food. May Śrī and fame rest in me.
kardamena prajā-bhūtā mayi sambhava kardama ।
śriyaṃ vāsaya me kule mātaraṃ padma-mālinīm ॥ 11 ॥
O Kardama (son of Lakṣmī), be born through me. Establish Śrī — the lotus-garlanded mother — in my lineage.
āpaḥ sṛjantu snigdhāni ciklīta vasa me gṛhe ।
ni ca devīṃ mātaraṃ śriyaṃ vāsaya me kule ॥ 12 ॥
May the waters produce nourishing things. O Ciklīta, dwell in my home. Establish Devī, the mother Śrī, in my lineage.
ārdrāṃ puṣkariṇīṃ puṣṭiṃ piṅgalāṃ padma-mālinīm ।
candrāṃ hiraṇmayīṃ lakṣmīṃ jātavedo ma āvaha ॥ 13 ॥
O Jātaveda, bring to me Lakṣmī — moist with compassion, dwelling in lotuses, nourishing, golden-hued, garlanded with lotuses, moon-like, golden.
ārdrāṃ yaḥ kariṇīṃ yaṣṭiṃ suvarṇāṃ hema-mālinīm ।
sūryāṃ hiraṇmayīṃ lakṣmīṃ jātavedo ma āvaha ॥ 14 ॥
O Jātaveda, bring to me Lakṣmī — moist, the she-elephant, the staff (śakti), golden, garlanded with gold, sun-like, golden.
tāṃ ma āvaha jātavedo lakṣmīm anapagāminīm ।
yasyāṃ hiraṇyaṃ prabhūtaṃ gāvo dāsyo’śvān vindeyaṃ puruṣān aham ॥ 15 ॥
O Jātaveda, bring that Lakṣmī to me — she who never departs — through whom I may gain abundant gold, cattle, servants, horses, and people.

Mixed — primarily Anuṣṭubh and Triṣṭubh chandas.
Significance & When to Recite
Most auspicious on Śukravāra (Friday), Pūrṇimā, and Dīpāvalī. Recommended during Bharaṇī, Pūrva-Phālgunī, and Pūrvāṣāḍhā nakṣatras. Recited for prosperity, removal of poverty, fertility, and invoking Lakṣmī’s grace in the household. The Śrī Sūktam is recited at the conclusion of Viṣṇu pūjā and in Lakṣmī pūjā across all Vedic traditions.
